Module III: Circular Shelter
Module III
Circular Shelter
New Representations, New Conceptions [5 ECTS]
Materiality and Project [5 ECTS]
Living sustainable
Module III is the initial workshop of second semester of the MBArch Contemporary Project. The idea behind this event centered around the theme of cabins to raise awareness about the question of how can we settle in our territory in a sustainable way. The cabin raises the question of the materiality of the elements that are inscribed within the territory. Materiality is not limited to the material itself; it’s not merely its nature that interests this workshop, but the way it resonates with the territory in which it’s situated. What is its measure? How is it assembled? By whom? In what way does it fit into the local economy?
The cabin is the first human-built intervention, it the initial version of a shelter. It represents the balance between necessity, nature and culture. It’s a structure that utilizes the materials of the site to enable human habitation. The cabins can be floating, perched, on stilts, highlighted, or camouflaged. Regarding their materiality, it’s important, initially, to limit it to wood.
